After Excel Academy founder Dan Stillerman finished his actuarial studies, he got a job at a small life insurance company and took the opportunity with both hands.
But he quickly realised that he was completely out of his depth when it came to the spreadsheet software package Excel.
“The business that I was fortunate to work for, I found out on day one that it was entirely built purely on Excel and my experience in Excel was very, very limited.”
“To be perfectly honest I thought I was going to be fired or I would quit because it just seemed so overwhelming and my knowledge compared to where I needed to be and what my bosses could do was just so limited. So here I was with a great degree but clearly a massive gap in my actual practical skills,” he told Moneyweb on the sidelines of Slush, Europe’s biggest conference for start-ups.
