A lot of CEOs make the mistake of hiring who they need. Why is that a mistake? Well, it’s not – at first. At first things are going great because the company really needed someone to do the job they filled. But then, all too often, the new hire plateaus and the CEO has to guide them as the company grows because it’s new territory for the hire. All too often, it’s also new territory for the CEO.
Rather than make the CEO’s job easier, hiring who they needed made their job harder. It’s just as easy to hire someone who comes from one, or even two levels of business bigger than your company is today.
